Benedict Cumberbatch plays the latest villain in the second remake of the Star Trek big screen franchise.

Benicio Del Toro was approached for the lead villain, but declined due to monetary issues. Really? He has that option, what with his huge resume of fantastic roles from the past 10 years, since his Best Supporting Actor Oscar win a dozen years ago? What a fool.

Before the world gets to see Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek 2, we will hear him. He is the voice of both Smaug the Dragon and the Necromancer in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in movie theaters Christmas 2012, from director Peter Jackson.
